A short story (4 short story slam)

Supported by twin brother,

Cared for by widowed mother,

Ben has achieved the highest education,

And married princess Quinn of the nation.

Ben and Quinn are a perfect pair,

while Ben worked as an officer.

Together their happiness grow,

The expression on their faces always glow.

Their magical marriage lasted only three months long,

Before Ben accidentally fell off a hot air balloon and gone.

To keep fame and money from vanishing,

Dan is encouraged to be Ben, how astonishing.

Dan does not have the intelligence Ben has had,

But he looks exactly like Ben as sons of their Dad.

Dan and Quinn eventually fall in love,

Life seems as innocent as a dove.

Three years later comes a surprise,

Things become touchy as truth rise:

Ben did not die,

His coming home makes everyone cry.

Mother is excited with fears,

Dan is shocked with tears,

Quinn is showered with guilt,

Ben is swept by insult.

Each member begins self-blaming,

Nobody knows the solution.

Ben has lost everything,

Part of him still wants back his official position.

The incident is passed to the Queen,

Princess Quinn wants both Ben and Dan to win.

But family taboo only permits ONE single man,

Sadness towers Quinn like a sharp pin.

The Queen is determined to cover the truth,

and she managed to sentence Ben to death.

Ben’s mother killed herself in deep grief,

leaving Dan and Quinn alive in disbelief.

PS:this is a sad story, handsome and intelligent Ben has changed his fate with the support of his twin brother and widowed mother, and married the fairest girl, Princess Quinn, yet, an accident has everything changed for good, he fell off the hot air balloon during a family vacation, and considered dead by his loving family.

Quinn wants to be rich and wealthy as usual, she came up the idea of making a false announcement that it is Dan who is dead, her hubby Ben is still alive, thus she begins to live with Dan, the pretending “Ben”, and their faked marriage actually flourished, they fall in love and behave like a real couple, a baby is on the way, as the family celebrate and enjoy life’s sunshine, Ben suddenly appeared.

Ben did not die, he survived and was sentenced to the jail for three years for claiming himself as Ben the son in law of the King  at a locale state, because everyone knows that  “Ben” is in the capital city doing his duty happily. His homecoming did not increase joy to the family, fears, sadness, and guilt mixed with love, it is hard to choose what to do next, until the Queen decides to save the FACE of her royal family and make the real prince Ben die …

Ben is innocent, but truth does not serve/save him, even his best friend has to tell lies in the court to protect himself, POWER wins over justice…

This is part of life!

The Garbage Truck (Sharing A Post From Friend Collin)

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you’re the Terminator, for an instant you’re probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly she can get back her focus on what’s important.

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here’s what happened. I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car’s back end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy you did.

So this was it: “The Law of the Garbage Truck.” I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do anymore.” I began to see garbage trucks.

Like in the movie “The Sixth Sense,” the little boy said, “I see Dead People.” Well, now “I see Garbage Trucks.” I see the load they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my Taxi Driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.

One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwells on a hit. Payton was ready to make the next play his best.

Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully present, and at their best for the people they care about. The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their day. What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by? Here’s my bet. You’ll be happier.

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so.. Love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don’t.

Magpie Tale-One Thousand Candles

This is a post for Magpie Tale (Fire) hosted by Willow at magpie tale

It has been a while I write a short story…Here it goes!

I Value Your Input and Wishing You All A Very Enjoyable Tuesday Ahead!

Zach is an oilman, strictly speaking, he is the President of a large oil company. He and his wife Mary share four beautiful children together, with the kids’ age at 15, 12, 10, and 5. The family has two fancy houses, one is near the ocean, one is on top of a hill…They spend most of their time in their mountain house.

Ever since a fire has occurred in their house, sadness settles in and begins to haunt the entire family. Because during the fire, Mary has lost her vision. She is 45 years old, the world is dark to her all of a sudden, and she thought she has lost everything.

Mary is terrified. She has no more confidence in herself, she trusts no one. She would scream nervously at her nanny, yell at her husband, and push everyone who comes near her…The once peaceful and lovely household is in chaotic now.

Zach is a good man. He loves his wife, and understands what Mary has been through. He instantly makes arrangement so that he works at his home office mostly, goes out only if he has important clients coming to see him.

Zach wanted to scream too, but he is a man, his family needs his strength and wisdom now. He would do anything or everything to keep the family as a whole. Because Mary is his true love: when Zach was a young lad and full of doubts and uncertainty, it was MARY who held faith in him and encouraged him to start his own business…Zach grew up in a remote countryside village, Mary grew up in an upper class family, Zach has extraordinary talents in all subject matters, especially in public relations, while Mary has the fairest look and the kindest heart. Her strength is that she adores everyone, regardless their gender, race, background.

It is Mary’s love that has tamed, molded, and accomplished Zach, who is now a successful and well rounded gentleman. Just because of this, Zach is determined to continue his love 4 Mary, and make sure she understands and feels it.

Every day when the sun is set, Zach would light up one thousand candles on a special table in Mary’s room, then he would sit next to Mary and pray…At first, Mary could not stay still, she would try to run across the room and bump herself onto the table, and fall, Zach always there to take her into his strong arms and hold her tight to calm her down…

Words of love fly and circle their room every evening from Zach’s heart. He believes his instincts, he has faith that Mary will go back to him, love him the way she used to be, and be able to “see” the beauty of the world again…

Persistence does pay off, slowly, Mary calms down, she would remain calm while Zach prays, later, the whole family of six will stay a minimum one hour in Mary’s room, with one thousand candles burning, they pray together for peace, love, blessings, and forgiveness of their sins. It has become a both romantic and fun time to the kids.

Three months have passed.

Then one day, Zach has caught a flu and he could not help coughing during their praying time. How anxious Mary feels at this moment. She wants to help her husband, thus she gives orders to the oldest kid to help Zach lie down in bed, then she asks the nanny to call their family doctor to come in…

While they are waiting for the doctor’s arrival, Mary kneels down on floor and closes her eyes, she prays for Zach, so sincerely and wholeheartedly, …

After about 15 minutes, she opens her eyes, and she starts to scream, then laugh…She sees the one thousand candles in front of her, and she sees her kids’ cute faces staring at her anxiously and curiously…

“I Can See Now.”

The announcement flies at the moment their family doctor steps into the room. Zach jumps out of his bed and together, the family of six hold one another in their arms and cries in joy…

When they eventually calm down, the doctor give a check to both Zach and Mary, Mary is fully recovered, Zach’s cough is no big deal, and their life will go back to the way it is before the fire in No time….

***The End!***

Theme Thursday/Magpie Tale-Am I fishing in The air?

He was 74  when he met her, who was a college freshman and smells like morning rose.

The university has invited him to give a talk about his life time achievements, who happens to be a Nobel Prize Winner on Literature 40 years ago when he was a young professor in the United States.  On the day of his arrival, this girl greets him and gives him a hug, a bunch of flowers.  He likes her a lot, the way any male would feel when they meet the most beautiful girl in the world.

His name is Patrick Young.  He and his wife, Winnie Young have been married for more than 50 years.  They have  been through thin and think together. When he was a Ph. D candidate at a southern university in America, his wife gave up her job back in their home country and went to the U. S. to support him.  He is very different from other young fellows, he has bad tempers and always seek something fresh in life, yet Winnie tolerated him, and did not pursue her own graduate studies until he became a full professor who has published more than 100 influential articles speaking of how poverty and ignorance impact human development…After He won noble prize in literature, he was everywhere in the media around the world. He has enjoyed these for only a short period of time, then after their youngest son graduated from well known university, Patrick ands Winnie decide to go back to their home country to stay. He missed hometown food, he missed peaceful walks and thus there they were, back to native country and lived in a countryside house with their pet

Boot the cat.

“What am I thinking? Am I fishing in the air?” Patrick frowns when he misses her, the sunshine girl from his visit in college.

His wife is very sick at a hospital, he has become less patient about what’s going to happen, losing his beloved wife, of 52 years of marriage.

It happens when it is ready.

Six months later, Winnie died at hospital at the age of 71.

Patrick is shocked. He does love her, he has never betrayed her while their life time marriage.  Now she is gone, their kids are grown and gone, what is he going to do?

Due to his fame, he has received thousands of hundreds letters, gifts, postcards, and so on from all over the world. Then, on that Saturday evening, he has noticed a letter addressed to him from there, the university, the sunshine girl, … he could barely recall her name.

“Dear Professor Young:

This is Iris Kong, I am a secret admire of yours. I am sorry that you have lost your beloved wife. I have read all of your published articles and books. I have a question: I am majoring in English, May I translate one of your books into English? I would love to hear from you.

Iris Kong.”

Patrick’s heart jumps.  He does not know why, he wanted to say YES… and he did.

Back and forth, they exchanged opinions for a few months.

Literature people are full of ambitions and dreams. Iris needs further explanations when she is not sure about certain content of Patrick’s work.  Thus the communication involves memories, inner struggles,  dreams, and hopes of Patrick…Iris is excited to discover such a rich and talented soul.

They begin to write poems and trade praising their passion for life…

They begin to write notes caring and encouraging each other….

They start to call each other and talk on the phone for hours…

They want to meet each other, but when? What does it mean?

When he is 83, she is 27, they meet. He has grown older, she has become more mature and looks like an elegant lotus ever since they meet 9 years ago.  But age does not gap them, very naturally, they hold hands and embrace each other like young hot couples in love.

After a month, he formally proposes and she agrees to marry him.

News spread like the release of a rocket, people from all over the world are shocked, this world famous professor has gone crazy, he marries a woman who is 55 years younger than he is…what kind of love life could it be? How is she going to cope because it seems like they could not have children? Is their love real?

Patrick and Iris choose to ignore anything coming their way.  They only listen to music, talk about their favorite subject poetry, and think about how or what they shall do to write, promote, and enhance the quality of literature in a global sense.

They remain married until today, you only see them smile and holding hands in news…

Magpie Tale-The Pearl Princess

Meg, nick name Little Sparrow, has been living with her Mom,  Moon,  all alone in a remote countryside village of the Middle Kingdom in the past 16 years.  Meg never knows who is her father until the week before her mother died.

“My darling daughter, come over and promise me something.” Moon speaks,  her voice weak.

“What promise?” Meg sits at her mother’s bedside, a little bit confused.

“I have a feeling, I won’t be able to live for more than one  week. I must tell you who your father is, and after I die, you have to find him, you have to love him rest of your life…”

“Mom, my father, he is alive….?” Emotion erupts in Meg and her body begins to shiver.

Meg grows up being told that her father is dead…Now her mother is offering her dying wish and it is too sudden for her to accept the reality.

“YES!” Moon answered, her voice sounds like soft music all of a sudden, her face is as pale as  paper.

“Seventeen years ago, when I was making a living by singing in a bar in nearby town, I met your Dad.  I was not a general singer, I entertain customers but never sell my body. I was clean…I learned literature myself and was able to write my own songs, I sang from my bottom of my heart and became famous because of my lovely voice, unbeatable beauty, and …”

Moon pauses to take her breath.

“Then on this beautiful May day, I was invited to sing for a special customer.  On a fancy boat in the most beautiful West lake in town, I was in a shock to see a man who was dressed with the most elegant clothes and sat at the table feeling miserable.”

“Who is he?” Meg holds her breath.

“It turned out that he had lost a child and had been on vacation with his family.”

“So?” Meg looks at her mom pitifully, guessing the rest of the story.

“YES.  On that fateful day when we met, he fell in love with me.  He found excuses keeping visiting me in the bar. He always paid me three times tips and got himself drunk before his servants took him away.”

“Did his wife know what he was doing?” Meg is curious.

“I don’t know.  What I remember was that on the day before he left my town, we had a night together.  He wrote a poem on a paper fan with his signature on it, and I fell for him because he is so intelligent and his love for his son truly moved me. He was sad that he felt helpless in saving his child’s life, he felt lonely because his wife only cared about money. She blamed him for the loss of their beloved child. “

Moon seems smiling when she reveals the secret that has been buried in her mind for such a long time.

“Does he know about me?” Meg seems out of breath.

“NO.  As you know, in our times now, a man can have more than one wife. Your Dad promised me that he would get back to me so that I became his second wife. But he never came back.”

Moon swallows hard.

Meg seems knowing why her Mom has refused to talk about her father, who happened to be a man who betrayed her mother.

“Meg, I am dying. I must let him know that he has a child with me. He needs to love YOU, because after I am gone, you will be alone and I won’t allow you to follow my footsteps.”

Moon reached out her left hand, placing it on Meg’s.

Tears well up in Meg’s eyes, she is confused and lost.

“After I am gone, please take the blue willow plate from the safe and carry it with you when you go finding your Dad.”

The blue willow plate?”  Meg’s eyes opens wide.

“YES. On the plate, there is a picture, and that’s where you Dad lives.  Show him the paper fan with the poem and his signature, and give him the blue willow plate. He will have to recognize you.”

“Where does he live?” Meg cries.

The Forbidden City.” Moon’s voice grows weak…She turns her head away.

Meg is sleepless. She is a princess at large, this is what she has never dreamed about.  She loves her mom, and she has learned how to bead, weave, knit, read and write poetry, compose and sing folk songs under the love of her Mom.

“Mom is strong, she must have missed Dad so badly….” Meg is full of tears.

One year later, Meg is crowned formally by her father as  The Pearl Princess, who will live with the family in Forbidden City the rest of her life.  The whole country  has cheered and celebrated under the order of the King.

Some people have questioned about Meg’s true identity, and this is the King’s response:

“From the first time I saw Meg, I knew she is a princess, she looks exactly like her mother at the age 16.  How can I ever forgive myself for being so selfish? I never knew Moon had my child. But at lonely nights, I missed Moon and recalled her beauty.  The taboos in our system did not allow me to marry Moon because of her profession at times.”

The King has built a beautiful tomb for Moon, father and daughter together have been visiting Moon’s tomb at least once a year to mourn and honor her.

And Meg the princess is loved by the king unconditionally; she becomes the most beautiful, the best mannered, and the most beloved princess in No time. Because Meg understands ordinary folks and she is always ready to help the poor, the disabled, the disadvantaged, and the needy.

And she gets married to a prince a few years later; they have lived their life happily after.

This post is for Magpie Tale at magpie tale

Jingle‘s tale is inspired by a movie she has watched last year and she has changed the name, setting, and details to tell her own or adapted tale.

Thank You for Reading!

Wishing You A Mindful Monday!

;) ;) ;)

The following is one of Jingle’s favorite princesses in the movie.

The Actress’s Name is Vicki Chao.

Magpie Tale-The List of Magpie Tale Participants, A Fantasy

It is July, it’s raining hard outside. Min and Kevin, sister and brother, who are aged at 8 and 10 keep shifting their eyes from the computer screen to take a look at the window next to them.

Their mother is out working; their father has gone to a business trip.  They were told to stay at home by themselves, and they are playing a computer game called “Magpie Tale”, in which they can invent their own adventures and have fun.

They are given a glass globe at the moment, there are three fish floating in water, plus a hand shaped red coral in the center of the ball.

Just as Min and Kevin begin to think about what kind of adventure they could have with the given prompt.

Suddenly, the old oak tree in the backyard of their house is cut by the lightening and heavy branches of trees fall and hit the roof of the house.

The electricity is out! The computer screen turned blank and black.

“Help.” Min screams.

“The roof is leaking.” Kevin cries as he pulls his sister from the chair trying to find a spot to stay and remain safe.

The door to their backyard swings open and stormy water jumps in along with the mighty and angry wind, min and Kevin are swept down on the floor.

“I am dying.” Both of them holler inside as their room is flooded with water from all directions.

“Where am I?” Min notices a big fish in the water with herself floating in a round shaped ball.

“What happened?” Kevin sees a small fish in front of him while he is swimming in water inside a closed ball.

“I am a fish in the computer prompt.”  Both Min and Kevin wiggle their tails as they stare at one another in amazement, they are the fish in the prompt, they have left their parents and can not go home any more.

“Hello, Min and Kevin.” A noble voice came from behind and they see another fish.

“Who are you?” Kevin tries to be brave, because he knows that this fish is the only hope to save him and his sister in order for them to go back to human life.

“I am the Master of imagination.” The gold fish keeps winking at Min, while he answers Kevin’s question.

“Can you help us out? My sister and I want to be a normal boy and a normal girl, we don’t want to live inside this small limited space with No computers or home cooked meals.”

Kevin softens his voice, trying to be nice.

“Sorry, I can’t help.” The Master of imagination turns away, ignoring Kevin.

“Why? Please, I know you can. At least let us know how we can make it work.” Min rushes to the Master’s side, she does a beautiful dance around the master.

“Look at me, I need YOUR HELP.” Min blows a bubble toward the Master.

“The list of magpie tale participants, do you have it?”

“Of course not.”

“mmm..” The master stops, “alright, I will give you the addresses of all of those kids or Magpie Tale participants, both of you must visit all of them, one by one, read their adventures on this particular prompt and reflect what you have learned from them. Once you have reported all the adventures previous players have gotten, you will win freedom to go home, new game players will be coming in to replace you. Got me?”

“Thank you very much. “ Min and Kevin give a sign of relief.

Magpie Tale-The Magical Wish

The following is a Magpie Tale.

BJ is twelve years old and is a tomboy. She enjoys exploring everything around her and has wild imaginations.

BJ is the only child in her family. Her name comes from her parents, B from her Dad Bob, J from her Mom June.

The family lives in a country side village of North America, with their house surrounded by rows of trees.  Bob makes a living as a carpenter, June is a housewife, she grows vegetables in their family garden and sells some of them to locale town folks in nearby market place. BJ grows up closed to her Dad.

Even since BJ begged her parents for permission to build her a tree house so that she could reside within, she got her parents worried and frowned more often.

They love her, more than anything in the world, but this idea frightens them, they worry about her safety…eventually Bob and June give up, they wanted to make BJ happy.  Bob and June, especially Bob would do anything for BJ! After careful considerations; Bob built BJ the most beautiful tree house with the finest wood.

On the night BJ moved to her tree house, Bob handed her a wooden stick that is capped with silver.

“Start tonight, stars bright, hold this tight, you will be alright.” Bob handed the wooden stick to BJ, it has been a lovely pain  for Bob to see his baby girl grow up and shine like the sun and try to stay more distant from him in other cases.

“Please don’t feel bad, I know how to protect myself, DAD.” BJ gave Bob a bear hug and kissed him on his cheeks.

Their eyes met, both smiled.

After her Dad left, BJ bolted her door and settled herself comfortably in her bed. Everything in her bed is familiar, her pink bed sheets, her pink blanket; her favorite pillow …

The wooden stick is something that is novel and strange to BJ. She held it close to smell the fresh paint and found herself enjoy the feeling of holding it. It is such a treasure, because it is made by hand and with love, from her intelligent Dad.  BJ always feels proud of her DAD and admires his top skills in making delicate sets of furniture.

“I wish I can swim in the sea.” BJ closed her eyes with her cheeks resting on the skin of her wooden stick, and she made her wish, unconsciously!

All of a sudden, a force like electric current transforms from the stick to BJ, and in no time, before BJ knows what’s going on, she is flying above the sky with her wooden stick in her arms. “Help”. BJ screams but she finds that her voice is too weak to be heard by people on earth, all she could see or feel is the strong current inside her body, keeping her up in the air like a balloon, and she is among the twinkling stars.

After she feels completely lost, with her body as weak as a teabag, she finds her body falling from the sky, All the way down with accelerating speed.

“I am going to die.” A faint voice cries in BJ’s head.

BJ closes her eyes and stops thinking.

“Splash”. BJ lands on the water of the Pacific Ocean.

“What’s going on?” BJ bites her lips, again, nobody is near to hear her.

When BJ finally finds her consciousness, she finds herself wearing a black diving suit and is swimming like a fish under the sea.  All sorts of sea creatures wave hello to her, they follow

her behind and in no time, she swims with schools of fish behind her…She sees the most beautiful corals …BJ is entertained and smiles like an angel.

“Free at last. “ BJ tells herself.

“BJ, Time for breakfast.” Mom’s voice comes with a strong knock on her tree house door.

BJ opens her eyes, and knows that she has spent her first night at her tree house, and she is

safe and sound, ready for a new day, with her loving family.

The magical wish…BJ winks before she opens the door for her Mom.

In the days, weeks, months, years to come, the black wooden stick would stand against white washed wall of her bathroom during daytime, but when BJ is ready to go to sleep, her Dad would always remember to take the stick to BJ’s tree house.

“Start tonight, stars bright, hold this tight, you will be alright.” Bob will hand the wooden stick to BJ, the way he did in the first time, but with growing confidence in his voice.

“Thanks  a ton, Dad.” BJ would put herself in Bob’s arms and hold him tight, kiss his Dad goodbye.

And their eyes met, they both smile.

BJ wishes she could share her adventures with her parents, but she never did.

She is afraid of breaking the magical spell between her father and she, and she prefers to think that her DAD knows, he must know he has given his daughter a magical stick, a power that could protect BJ and offers her anything or everything a good girl could ever asks for or dreams about.

The magical stick is the power of love, the love between a father and a daughter.

BJ will always hold her stick when she is ready for bed, and she will close her eyes and make a wish!

55-The Stars Seem Shy

No whisper descends
from the groaning sky,
No scowl wrinkles
the tiring pool,
No true love succeeds
Without struggling to follow the general rule.
The stars seem shy
When leaning down to hear babies cry.
The town hall leers
Its torn shelves,
The cars try
to lose weight
By sending homes
of those absent-minded elves.
